iPad 2 UK prices cheaper than iPad 1

Apple confirms iPad 2 prices and 5pm retail sale

Apple UK has announced official Apple iPad 2 UK pricing today, adding that the eagerly anticipated gadget will go on sale later than expected on Friday March 25.

Due to the iPad 2 being priced identically to the original iPad in the US, most technology commentators expected a similar policy in the UK. In fact the entry-level 16GB wi-fi iPad 2 will sell for £399, £30 less than before the recent post-iPad 2 price reduction – a trend repeated in other versions. Prices for all the models are listed below.

  • 16GB wi-fi: £399.00 inc VAT (£332.50 ex VAT)
  • 32GB wi-fi: £479.00 inc VAT (£399.17 ex VAT)
  • 64GB wi-fi: £559.00 inc VAT (£465.83 ex VAT)
  • 16GB wi-fi + 3G: £499.00 inc VAT (£415.83 ex VAT)
  • 32GB wi-fi + 3G: £579.00 inc VAT (£482.50 ex VAT)
  • 64GB wi-fi + 3G: £659.00 inc VAT (£549.17 ex VAT)

In stores from 5pm, March 25

It’s not all good news, however, as Apple added that the iPad 2 will not go on sale in retail stores in the UK until 5pm on Friday March 25, and 1am (GMT) on its website – a few hours later than expected.

Huge demand in the US and the natural disaster in Japan – where many iPad 2 components are manufactured – had led to speculation that international sales would be significantly delayed; rumours that proved only partially true.

‘We’re experiencing amazing demand for iPad 2 in the US, and customers around the world have told us they can’t wait to get their hands on it,’ said Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive officer. ‘We appreciate everyone’s patience and we are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.’
