The new five-door hatchback Chevrolet Cruze will cost £13,995

The Cruze hatchback is set to join the saloon variant already on Chevrolet forecourts, providing plenty of standard kit for your money and a more conventional family car shape.

Chevrolet Cruze hatchback: from £13,995

The compact hatchback market is the UK’s biggest, so this new Cruze should be good news for Chevrolet.

Pricing starts at £13,995, which is £190 more than the cheapest Cruze saloon – but the hatchback range starts at LS specification while the Saloon is also available as a more basic S. Properly compared, the LS hatch is £535 less than the LS saloon.

For the money you get air conditioning, remote locking, front electric windows, follow-me-home headlights, electric heated door mirrors and CD stereo with aux-in connection for MP3 players – plus a 122bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine.

Above this sits the LT model, which includes cruise control, all-round electric windows, trip computer, parking sensors, 16-inch alloys, front fog lights and steering wheel audio controls, plus leather trim for the steering wheel and gearknob.

Engine choice here is the same 122bhp petrol (optionally available with an automatic gearbox) and 160bhp 2.0-litre VCDi turbodiesel. Priced from £14,895.

Arriving in showrooms this July

At the top of the range is the Cruze LTZ – which comes with a 139bhp 1.8-litre petrol or the 160bhp diesel, both with auto option, and is priced from £16,095. It adds Bluetooth, USB port, automatic lights and wipers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 17-inch alloys, and aluminium-effect interior trim.

The diesel version of this can be further upgraded with an ‘Executive Pack’, which features full leather trim, satellite navigation and heated front seats – from £19,295.

No further technical specifications are yet available – so we can’t tell you how the boot space and fuel economy compare to the saloon, for example. However, we do know the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback is due to reach showrooms in July.
