Unlike regular dishwashers, this compact Bosch dishwasher sits on a worktop and can accommodate six place settings – take your pick from a range of bright colour options. It measures a mini 45x55x51cm.

This mini range cooker slots into a normal cooker-sized space in your kitchen, but has the look, feel and features of a range cooker – including two ovens, grill and gas hob. It measures 60cm wide.

Steamers can often be quite bulky to store, but this multi-tiered one from Tefal compactly packs down into itself, so you can put it away easily in a cupboard.

4. Whirlpool AWE6517 washing machine, £345

Like some of the other top-loading washing machines we’ve recently tested in the lab, this compact washing machine from Whirlpool measures only 40cm across – saving 20cm compared with a standard front loader. Though of course, it won’t fit underneath a worktop.

5. Magimix Nespresso Pixie coffee machine, £140

The aptly-named Pixie is the latest Magimix Nespresso coffee machine, and measures just 11cm wide – so it should slot in to space-challenged kitchen worktops without too much bother.

6. Bosch SRS45E42GB dishwasher, £315

This freestanding Bosch dishwasher is a slimline model – measuring 85x45x61cm – and can hold nine place settings in its two racks.
