Suspension and styling tweaks for sporty hybrid

Sportier looks than the standard CT 200h

Lexus has announced the details of the CT 200h F-Sport – a new sporty specification for its premium compact hybrid.

The Lexus CT 200h F-Sport gets sharper looks, extra equipment and retuned suspension.

However, there have been no changes made to the drivetrain of the standard CT 200h.

The Lexus CT 200h is the first hybrid to enter the premium compact sector, taking on the likes of the Audi A3 and the BMW 1 Series.

Lexus has made changes to the suspension but not the drivetrain

This new F-Sport version slots into the range between the mid-spec SE-L and range-topping SE-L Premier. As befits such a nameplate, it features a sporty bodykit – including flared side skirts, rear spoiler, mesh grille and new aero bumpers, plus 17-inch alloy wheels in a menacing dark finish.

On the inside there’s a flat-bottomed F-Sport steering wheel, aluminium pedal surfaces and scuff plates, and black leather upholstery. Compared to the SE-L, extra fitted kit comprises cruise control, rear parking camera, electric driver’s seat and electric folding mirrors.

Further options are available, including a satellite navigation system with the unusual Remote Touch interface (a little bit like a computer mouse) and a 10-speaker stereo system, plus front and rear parking sensors and a sunroof.

Revised suspension and lateral damping

The sporty upgrades continue inside the Lexus CT 200h F-Sport

There are no engine enhancements for the F-Sport, but Lexus has revised the suspension.

This includes fitting new dampers and springs, while the CT 200h’s innovative lateral damping system also comes as standard. This provides additional chassis stiffness – good for handling – while reducing the vibrations associated with fixed strut braces. In theory that means the car can be both sharp and smooth.

Since there are no engine performance upgrades, the F-Sport is powered by the same 1.8-litre petrol and electric motor combination as other CT 200h models – similar in turn to that underpinning the Toyota Prius. They drive the front wheels via a CVT automatic gearbox.

This means it reaches 62mph in 10.3 seconds and has a top speed of 112mph.

However, it also returns a claimed 68.9mpg with impressively low 94g/km CO2 emissions – so you will pay zero car tax and be exempt from the London congestion charge. It can also travel for up to a mile on electric power alone (depending on speed and conditions).

Priced from £27,850 and arriving in January

The Lexus CT 200h F-Sport is available to order now, with first deliveries scheduled for January.

Prices start at £27,850 – making it £2,650 more expensive than the SE-L model and £2,785 cheaper than the SE-L Premier.
