Nationwide’s new reward scheme includes discounts with Clintons and Hertz

Nationwide has launched a new reward scheme for its Visa debit and credit card customers.

The ‘Simply Rewards’ scheme includes discounts with a range of retailers such as Clintons, Hertz, Kwik Fit and Lastminute.com. The offers are redeemable through vouchers or via online and phone codes. There are no points to collect or fees to pay in order to claim the discounts.

More offers from brands like Microsoft, Virgin Holidays and Tesco will be available through the Nationwide Simply Rewards website. Any customer with a Nationwide Visa debit or credit card can access the offers by logging onto the site using the first six digits of their card number. Nationwide is a Which? Recommended bank account provider.

Nationwide scheme could offer value

Which? banking expert Alex Kouzarides commented: ‘The new reward scheme from Nationwide could offer good value if you shop at its partner stores. However, make sure you shop around first as you’ll often be able to find bigger discounts elsewhere already, perhaps through group buying sites, price comparison sites or by using online voucher codes.

‘Credit card users who don’t pay off their bill in full every month should factor in the cost of interest too – Nationwide’s credit cards don’t feature in our Which? Best Rate tables for borrowing or for 0%-on-purchases deals, so the interest you pay could soon wipe out the benefit of any discount.

‘If you do pay off your bill in full every month, the Nationwide reward deal is worth considering as some of the discounts look generous. However, you might be better off with a reward or cashback credit card which will pay you rewards on all your shopping, not just purchases with selected retailers.’
