New Maclaren Quest: now suitable from birth

Popular pushchair maker Maclaren has given Which? a sneak peek of the new 2012 version of its bestselling Quest buggy – due to hit shops soon.

The new and improved Maclaren Quest pushchair comes with a lie-flat backrest, which Maclaren says will make it suitable to use from birth. Previously the Quest buggy could only be used with babies of three months old and upwards.

Maclaren also says the new Quest’s backrest recline mechanism can now be operated with one hand. Which? pushchairs expert Victoria Pearson says: ‘We’ll be interested to see how easy it is to operate this recline mechanism – they’re normally tricky to use on this type of umbrella-fold stroller’.

Maclaren buggy safety

Maclaren has additionally launched what it calls a ‘global safety standard’, a commitment that all its pushchairs will meet or exceed the highest safety standards around the world.

All from birth pushchairs, including the Quest, will feature a protective head and foot barrier to protect a child slipping out of the buggy if the harness hasn’t been properly fastened. All of the Maclaren range will also have a permanent five-point safety harness and a handle tether strap.

Victoria Pearson says: ‘We test all of the pushchairs that go through our lab to both British and European safety standards, so it’s great to hear that Maclaren is making a commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety.’

We’ll be putting the new Quest buggy through our rigorous pushchair tests to see how it measure up to the competition.
