Mini has unveiled a compact commercial vehicle concept – dubbed the Clubvan – that claims to be the first to offer premium features in the small car-based van sector.

2012 Mini Clubvan concept: based on Mini Clubman

The Mini Clubvan concept draws on the marque’s heritage for small commercial vehicles and uses the same principles first seen in the classic Mini Van to provide the maximum amount of interior space on the smallest possible footprint.

Based on the existing Mini Clubman chassis, the Clubvan concept is visually similar to the conventional car. The concept is finished in British racing green and gets opaque polycarbonate rear side windows in place of the usual glass.

The Mini Clubvan would offer a large flat loading space

2012 mini Clubvan concept: flat rear load area

The Clubvan concept is a strict two-seater, with the conventional rear bench seat of the Mini Clubman removed to provide a fully flat load area. As yet, however, Mini is yet to confirm maximum payload or load bay dimensions.

The load area stretches from the split side-hinged rear doors up to a partition behind the two front seats and features six attachment hoops recessed into the Clubvan’s floor that enable cargo to be held in place.

The Clubvan also includes the standard Mini Clubman’s third Clubdoor, to give the option of loading smaller items from the side, as well as through the rear.

To ensure the Clubvan offers practicality levels on a par with its style-focused design, Mini says the interior of the concept car can be personalised to suit the needs of the customer.

Tools and goods can be stored neatly in bespoke drawers and shelving units, while numerous 12-Volt sockets in the load area allow the use of suitably adapted power tools.

The Clubvan is purely a concept vehicle and Mini hasn’t confirmed any fixed plans to put the Clubvan into production.
