Which? takes Mothercare Orb pushchair for a stroll

Is the Orb better than the Mothercare Spin?

mothercare orb-308731

Mothercare has launched a new updated version of its innovative Spin pushchair, called the Mothercare Orb. But just how different is the new design?

The Mothercare Orb pushchair features the same innovative spin mechanism as the Mothercare Spin. This lets you change the seat from forward-facing to parent-facing simply by rotating it with using the handle.

Rotating the seat in this way is much easier than reversing the seat on most pushchairs, which require you to lift the seat off the chassis to change direction.

Our pushchair expert has taken the Mothercare Orb out and about around the Which? offices to see how different it is from the Mothercare Spin – including looking at whether it is easy to steer and fold. Find out what she thought of it in our first look review of the Mothercare Orb pushchair.

Mothercare Orb pushchair

As well as the unique spin mechanism, this pushchair comes with a pramette seat, which can be converted from a carrycot into a pushchair seat and vice versa, so you don’t have to buy a separate carrycot.

It is available in two different colours – ‘Delta Crimson’ (red) and ‘Cyber Liquorice’ (black).

Although we haven’t sent the Mothercare Orb to our labs yet for rigorous testing, we have cast our critical eye over it to see whether this pushchair is worth its £400 price tag.

We spend more than £70,000 a year testing puschairs, all based on what matters most to you. We look at:

  • safety and durability – including how well a pushchair is made, its strength and stability and the quality of its locking mechanisms and brakes
  • ease of use – including folding and pushing, attaching and removing accessories, cleaning and loading the pushchair into a car boot

As well as completing an expert assessment of each model, we also get our parent panel to try out and rate each pushchair with their child.
