Ongoing strike action by French air traffic controllers is continuing to cause delays and cancellations to flights across Europe today.
The strikes, which began in France on Tuesday, have caused severe disruption, with around 1,800 European flights cancelled yesterday. Ryanair, one of the worst affected airlines, cancelled over 200 flights and expects to cancel 244 more today. EasyJet and British Airways have also been forced to cancel flights as a result of the dispute.

Delays of up to five hours were reported yesterday, and there could be increased disruption today as the walk-outs were expected to spread to Belgium, Slovakia and Hungary. Flights across French airspace are affected, as well as those to and from the country.
However, planned strike action for Thursday 13 June has been postponed, according to BA and Ryanair. The airlines are advising that flights will operate as scheduled from tomorrow.
Refunds for cancelled flights
If your flight is cancelled, you must be offered a full refund or rerouting to your final destination. You are also entitled to phone calls, refreshments and if you are stuck overnight, accommodation.
If the flight is delayed, the airline must offer you meals and/or refreshments, depending on how long the flight is delayed for. If it is a lengthy delay, the airline may have to give you accommodation and transport to the hotel.
BA, EasyJet and Ryanair are urging passengers to check the status of their flights online before leaving for the airport.
Compensation and insurance
You are unlikely to be able to claim compensation for delays or cancellations, as strikes are normally classed as extraordinary circumstances beyond an airline’s control.
You may be able to claim on your travel insurance as some do provide cover for events such as strikes or civil unrest. Check our guide to insurers providing cover for unexpected events.
