Which? reveals four new Best Buy steam irons

Plus a Don’t Buy iron to avoid

Which? has tested the latest steam irons from brands such as Bosch, Philips and Tefal. We’ve uncovered four crease-busting Best Buy steam irons and three Best Buy steam generators that will help you blitz through your ironing.

We’ve tested 13 of the latest steam irons and steam generators available – and the results are a mixed bag.

We can reveal some fantastic irons that are so steamy they leave clothes flawlessly smooth and turn ironing into a quick, easy job. But other models are less than impressive.

We’ve discovered a Don’t Buy that drags and snags on fabrics and will leave you with still-creased clothes even after your ironing efforts.

To see the results, head to our steam irons review area and look for the purple ‘Just tested’ icon. Non-members can take out a £1 trial to Which? for full access to all of our reviews.

Cheap steam irons and generators

We’ve tested four irons from Russell Hobbs, Tefal and Morrisons that cost £30 or less. One of these cheap irons is so good at smoothing creases it qualifies as a Best Buy – proving you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a great iron.

And two of our newly-tested steam generators are a good deal cheaper than most steam generators on the market – at £120.

Best vs worst steam irons

Which? irons expert Jess O’Leary says: ‘A great iron will produce plenty of steam that’s driven deep into fabrics, helping you shift stubborn creases and whiz through your laundry pile with ease.

‘We measure the steam levels of every iron we test and find big differences between models. The best irons belt out loads of high-pressure steam to help you make quick, light work of the ironing. But the worst just leak-out steam, which makes ironing more of a chore than it needs to be.’
