Black Friday deal: save 50% on Nespresso coffee machine

Coffee machine reduced from £400 to £200

Maximix Nespresso-Gran-Maestria

You can save a massive £200 on the Nespresso Gran Maestria coffee machine with John Lewis’s Black Friday flash sale. But what did our experts think when we tested it?

The Nespresso Gran Maestria coffee machine is sleek, stylish and comes with an instant cup warmer – great for keeping your espresso hotter for longer.

The Aeroccino milk frother allows you to choose between velvety or dense foam so you can make your cappuccinos exactly how you like them.

This coffee machine is made by both Magimix and Krups and normally costs around £400 but for today only has been reduced to £200 in the John Lewis Black Friday flash sale.

How Which? tests coffee machines

Every time we test a coffee machine, our in-house experts meet with Giles Hilton, a member of the Speciality Coffee Association, to look at how well each coffee machine works and what the espressos and cappuccinos it produces taste like. Our tests assess:

  • Noise and temperature – we measure the noisiness of each coffee machine in decibels to ensure your machine won’t wake the whole household if you want an early morning coffee. We also check how hot the espresso is with a digital thermometer – coffee should be served between 60°C and 88°C.
  • Espresso quality – Giles’s expertise means that he can tell the difference between espressos produced by different machines using the same type of coffee, and he is able to judge how well the machine has extracted the coffee. As well as taste, we also assess the aroma and the crema (the golden foam on the surface of the coffee).
  • Milk frothing – when coffee machines have a milk frother, we look at how well they steam and froth milk. Our tests measure how long it takes before steam emerges from the steam pipe, how long it takes for the milk to reach 70°C, and how well the frothed milk combines with the espresso to make a cappuccino.
