Find out what the Which? verdict is on five steam generator irons

We’ve uncovered two new Best Buy steam generator irons that have proven they have what it takes to help you power through your ironing pile.

Our latest steam generator iron group test put five models priced £50 to £260 under the microscope at the Which? test lab, as part of our quest to uncover the best models that make ironing and garment steaming super-quick and easy.

Full details of the top scorers are on our Best Buy steam irons page.

Steam generators vs steam irons

Steam generator irons produce a lot more steam than regular irons, making ironing quicker and easier. Their super-size water tanks also mean they can steam for longer without needing to be refilled.

But steam generators are expensive, with premium models costing as much as £300.

The £50 Swan SI11010N has an an eye-catching low price, so we tested it against pricier rivals such as the £260 Philips Perfect Care Aqua GC8650/80 to see if it can keep up with the competition. You can see whether the cheap Swan steam generator impressed in our tests or whether it’s one to avoid by reading our steam generator reviews.

Best steam generator irons

The two new Best Buys produce large volumes of steam and make very quick work of creases so that you can get your ironing done in the blink of an eye. They feature premium soleplates that ensure a smoother glide over your clothes and longevity – you won’t find the steam levels drop off after the first few uses.

At the other end of the scale, lower scorers had handles that quickly became slippery from steam, were difficult to clean, and had water level markings on the tank that are difficult to make out.
