EE to raise its broadband prices in June 2019

Find out whether you might be affected and what to do if you have to pay more

EE has announced that its broadband prices are rising on June 26, with the average increase being £2 per month.

Customers who signed up with EE or upgraded their account before February 29 will be affected. However, if you’ve signed up with EE since then, you won’t have to pay these higher costs.

While the company hasn’t said exactly how many customers will have to pay more, EE is writing to all of those affected to make them aware of the rise. These increases follow Sky raising its broadband prices on April 1.

What to do if your EE broadband price goes up

The average price increase for EE broadband customers is going to be an additional £24 each year.

If you’re one of the customers whose price is going up and you feel unhappy with the increased price of your broadband package, the answer is simple: use Which? Switch Broadband to find a new broadband deal.

If you’re within the minimum terms of your contract with EE, you can cancel your contract without paying a penalty within 30 days of receiving notice of the price increase.

If you’re outside of the minimum terms of your broadband contract, you can cancel free of charge. Simply contact EE customer support and ask for a contract cancellation.

Stay on top of your broadband deal

Our research has shown that loyal broadband customers are likely to pay more for their broadband than customers who switch regularly or haggle with their provider.

This is because the cost of deals usually rises at the end of an introductory period. In April the average increase in costs from an introductory offer to a standard tariff was 19%, but the biggest increase was 89%.

This, combined with price rises like this one from EE, means loyalty often doesn’t pay in the world of broadband.

If you’re happy with your provider, a price rise can also be a good opportunity to haggle. This can sound daunting, but it’s a simple case of contacting your provider and asking for a better deal.
