If the return of Bake Off has inspired you to dust off your oven gloves and retrieve that cookbook from down the back of the sofa, you might be tempted by Aldi’s fancy-looking Ambiano Premium stand mixer.
It’s pricier than your average Aldi ‘Specialbuy’, but considerably cheaper than the famous KitchenAid stand mixer that it takes style inspiration from.
This metallic mixer is only available online, so there’s no need to head to your nearest Aldi. Aldi’s kitchen appliance deals tend to sell out pretty quickly, though, so you’ll need to make a snappy decision whether it’s what you’re looking for.
Read on to find out what you get with this mixer, and how it compares to the KitchenAid in terms of features and specs.

Aldi Ambiano Premium vs KitchenAid stand mixer
Aldi’s Ambiano Premium stand mixer is available in black or silver. It has a 1,000W motor and an aluminium body.
This mixer has eight speed settings, plus a separate pulse function to give you more control over your creations. The splashguard should protect your kitchen surfaces from the effects of any overly vigorous mixing.
You can use it for plenty of other things beside baking, too. As well as the standard flat beater, dough hook and whisk attachments, you’ll also get accessories to help you make pasta, cookies, sausages and kebabs, and even a meat grinder.
Like most of Aldi’s home appliance Specialbuys, this stand mixer comes with a generous three-year warranty.
When it comes to KitchenAid, you get a much wider choice of colours and finishes, which could be important if you like to coordinate all of your kitchen appliances.
While the Aldi model is only available in silver or black, you can pick up KitchenAid mixers in cream, red, green, purple, black and even metallic hues such as copper or rose gold.
Prices start from around £300, and you’ll get 10 speeds to choose from, full metal construction and a 275W motor. This is lower-powered than the Aldi but we wouldn’t read too much into that, as our tests have shown that more motor power doesn’t always translate into better results.
When you buy a KitchenAid stand mixer, you get the standard flat beater, whisk and dough hook attachments in the box. There are also loads of compatible accessories you can buy for things like pasta making, meat grinding and more, but unlike Aldi’s version these aren’t included – and they can be quite pricey.
Higher-spec KitchenAid stand mixers come with two stainless-steel mixing bowls, though – one has a large 4.9-litre capacity and the other is a 3-litre bowl – handy for mixing different quantities and not having to wash up between making your sponge and buttercream, for example.
KitchenAid’s guarantee length varies between one and five years depending on the model.
Aldi Ambiano Premium Stand Mixer: is it worth buying?
It’s not the cheapest mixer we’ve seen, but at this price the stylish retro design and wealth of extra accessories make this mixer a tempting prospect.
If you’re keen to try your hand at a range of home-baked goodies, it could be worth a go. Aldi’s three-year warranty is also pretty good compared with rivals.
We haven’t tried this model out, so we can’t give a definitive verdict on its mixing performance. However, we tried a very similar version Aldi sold back in October 2017 and, while we thought it did a reasonable job of mixing ingredients, the overall build quality felt a bit flimsy. The instructions were also not particularly helpful.

Should you spend more on a stand mixer?
Spending more on a stand mixer doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll get your hands on a better product. Some cheap stand mixers breezed through our lab tests, while a few more-expensive models didn’t live up to expectations.
However, not all cheap stand mixers are made equal, and taking a chance on a bargain model may be something you end up regretting down the line. Be sure to check out our stand mixer reviews where we reveal the best options for every budget.
