Hotel booking sites vow to clean up their act on discounts and hidden charges

Hotel booking sites have been ordered to be more transparent about discounts and hidden charges after an investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). The government watchdog took enforcement action against Expedia, Booking.com, Agoda, Hotels.com, ebookers and Trivago for potentially breaking consumer protection law.

Best hotel booking websites revealed

Little known Travelzoo saw off industry giants to be crowned the best hotel booking site in a survey by Which? Travel. The membership-only site, which is free to join, outperformed its better-established rivals Booking.com and Hotels.com with an overall score of 80%. The surprise result also saw another big player, Lastminute.com, left languishing at the bottom of the table with a mediocre 61%.
