The Thermomix TM5 is an updated version of the all-in-one TM31 kitchen machine from German brand Vorwerk. It’s claimed to replace almost every other kitchen gadget you can think of, including your food processor, mixer, juicer, blender and steamer. It can weigh, prepare and cook ingredients, allowing for precise and hands-off cooking. But, at £925, is it worth a spending a small fortune on?

  • But, as a keen baker, I don’t think it can replace my stand mixer. And although it can chop, it can’t grate or slice, so for some specialist food preparation or baking tasks, I don’t think it’s the ideal solution. You’ll need to commit to the Thermomix lifestyle to get the most out of it. If you want to regularly make smoothies, soups, nut butters and sauces from scratch, as well as steamed food, it has a lot to offer. But you might find a blender, soup maker or multi cooker could do a lot of similar jobs for a fraction of the price, so it’s worth considering the alternatives.
