The BMW 1 Series, launched in 2004, was the German company's first medium-sized family hatchback. Designed to compete with the Volkswagen Golf, it has distinctive looks and an equally unusual layout: it's rear-wheel drive, in contrast to the more usual front-drive set-up of most rivals. Is the 1 Series a better second-hand bet than rivals like the Audi A3 and Honda Civic? Find out in our full review.
