The Aico Ei144RC is a mains-powered heat alarm. Heat alarms work differently to smoke alarms in how they detect fires. Rather than looking for smoke particles in the air, they respond to rapid rises in temperature. This makes them better for use in kitchens, where fires commonly start, but where you wouldn’t position a smoke alarm because it would be triggered by fumes from cooking. The Ei144RC Heat Alarm can operate as a standalone alarm or interconnected to other compatible devices – such as the Ei650, Ei146 and Ei3024 smoke alarms – via a wired or wireless system, making it suitable for homes in Scotland. This means all alarms in the system will sound if a fire is detected. For a wireless system each alarm must be fitted with an Ei168RC RadioLINK base. It comes with a five-year warranty and has a sealed lithium battery for back-up if the mains fails, which is designed to last 10 years. We put it through our lab tests to see how it works in practice. Read on for our full review of this Aico heat alarm.
