Honeywell XS100 review
Don't Buy this smoke alarm – it failed to sound in two of our fire detection tests
When set the task of detecting smoke from a wood fire, one of the two samples of the Honeywell XS100 we tested failed to sound at all during our test. The second sample tested, took too long to detect smoke from our flaming plastics fire to pass the test.
The Honeywell XS100 passed our two other fire tests, but based on the two fire test failures we saw in our lab, we have to make it a Don’t Buy. Honeywell told us that the alarm is certified to the highest European Standards, has third-party accreditation and is effective at detecting smoke quickly.

The Honeywell XS100 may carry the Kitemark – a sign that it has passed standard smoke alarm tests – but it failed to sound in two of our eight smoke detection tests when we tested it back in 2018. That's why we made it a Don’t Buy. The first sample didn’t sound during our wood fire test and the second sample sounded too late when responding to our flaming plastics test. Honeywell told us that the alarm is certified to the highest European Standards, has third-party accreditation and is effective at detecting smoke quickly. But based on the results of our tests, we have made it a Don’t Buy.
