Who is Villa Plus?

Villa Plus is the largest villa holiday provider in the UK, offering 1,800 villas across 19 destinations, including Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain. According to its website, all the villas are personally visited, hand-picked and curated by the founder and a ‘dedicated team of experts’, and booking can be done online in ‘three easy steps’.

Which? verdict

Villa Plus is a highly-rated villa holiday provider, but it has tainted its reputation with its handling of coronavirus cancellations, and customers have found holiday villas they’ve paid for available to rent on other websites. We recently reported the company to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). We wouldn't recommend making a villa-only booking with them.

What's Villa Plus like?

Villa Plus sits at the top of our results table, indicating that the vast majority of its customers are satisfied with their holiday, however, this survey took place before the pandemic hit.

Working out at an average cost of around £89 a day for a short-haul holiday, Villa Plus certainly isn’t one of the most expensive companies, yet private pools (many heated) and barbecues come as standard, with this villa provider promising more free added extras than its competitors.

While there’s nothing to separate Villa Plus from its rivals when it comes to our star ratings, customers were more likely to be satisfied with the company than any others, and its villas were frequently described as ‘exactly as advertised’. People also shared many other positive comments about the company, which included: ‘absolutely brilliant’ and ‘perfect in every way’. However, its customer service wasn't up to scratch when it was put to the test in difficult times.

Some holidaymakers have now told us that after paying the balance on a holiday, they’ve found their villa available to rent, for the same dates, on other booking sites.

Did Villa Plus refund customers during the coronavirus crisis?

Despite lockdown restrictions making it impossible to travel to holiday villas, we received complaints that customers with villa-only bookings were struggling to get refunds – or even credit notes - early on in the crisis, for bookings cancelled due to coronavirus.

We have investigated Villa Plus and decided to withhold Which? Recommended Provider status on this basis.

Should I book with Villa Plus?

Although Villa Plus has an excellent customer score, questions remain about its refund policy and why the villa agency is asking customers to pay for a booking that may never be fulfilled. Book elsewhere.
