  • Independent of Government and industry, Which? is funded through the sale of magazines, books and online services.
  • Which? accepts no advertising, payment or samples from any of the companies whose products or services we test, so you can trust us to be completely impartial.

  • In the 1950s you could buy a kettle that could kill you and people needed to know what products were safe. Which? was founded by Michael Young in October 1957, and we test thousands of products every year to give people the information they need to choose the right product for them, from toasters to supermarket salads and cashback credit cards.
  • 23,093 is the number of photos Which? took to judge the battery life of cameras tested in 2009.
  • 13, 025 is the number of Which? members surveyed about supermarkets and they stores they rated the highest.

Which? also campaigns for all consumers to help them get a fairer deal. We currently focus on personal finance, energy, food and health and other consumer markets; but since our formation we’re proud to have had a real impact on consumers’ lives, for instance:

  • Which? successfully campaigned to make wearing seat belts compulsory, saving countless lives.
  • Which? lobbied to create the Food Standards Agency in response to the BSE crisis, to help ensure your food is safe.
  • Which? has helped people get thousands of pounds back by showing how they’ve been mis-sold payment protection insurance.
