Many carers find that they benefit from joining a support group where they are able to meet other carers who are in a similar position. Carers in Sheffield runs a number of support groups for carers. Some of these are based in local areas around Sheffield and are for all carers in that area. Others are for carers who have a particular situation in common. In either case, the groups are friendly and welcoming, and there are always Carers in Sheffield staff and volunteers there to greet new members, organise refreshments and help out with any problems you may have. Most of these groups meet monthly. Some meetings have a guest speaker relevant to caring; others have a particular activity (maybe a craft activity, or a quiz); at other meetings, carers are just able to talk among themselves, sharing experiences and tips and gaining mutual support. Many groups have a summer outing and a Christmas meal.
