Pressure washers: Patio cleaning

Cleaning your patio and paths will make them look much better and stop them becoming dangerously slippery to walk on. But getting busy with a scrubbing brush is time-consuming and painful.

The easiest way to avoid sore knees is to use a pressure washer with a patio attachment. Our video guide will show you how to tackle the job effectively.

If you think a power washer is the solution to your patio-cleaning gripes, why not find out which one we recommend in our pressure washers review.

Cleaning the surface

To clean off algae from paved surfaces, the simplest method is to blast it with a pressure washer. If you don’t have one of these, you could apply a patio cleaning liquid instead and scrub with a firm broom.

Killing weeds

Weeds can also be a problem. If you’re happy to use chemicals, there are path weedkillers available that, as well as killing the existing weeds, prevent others from coming up for several months afterwards.

Alternatively, you may prefer to remove them by hand. Long-handled wire brushes are now sold, which makes the job of removing weeds from between the narrow gaps less back-breaking.
