For some people dealing with fallen leaves in the garden is a real chore; and a leaf blower, or a leaf blower vac, can make collecting fallen leaves much easier. Now there are some things you can decide in the shop. You can think about whether you want a leaf blower or a leaf blower vac and you can feel how heavy the machine is, how easy it is to move around, and to use.

Some of the things you won't be able to find out in the shop. Such as how powerful it is, how easy it convert between leaf blower and vacs mode; and also how noisy the machine is; and that's where the which testing comes in. Our test site stockpiled fallen leaves in the Autumn, then they covered 10 metre square areas of flower bed, gravel, concrete, and grass with equal quantities of leaves.

To make the test more realistic, they wet the leaves and rolled them into the hard surfaces with a garden roller; two testers then blasts them off onto an adjacent area with each machine; recording the time taken, the amount of effort involved and the effectiveness the machines. Our testers also tried vacuuming wet leaves off a damp lawn and a gravelled area.

Each machine was also assessed on how well it shredded the leaves. We also measured how noisy the machine was to use. Finally, three testers rated how easy the machines were to use the best models were quick and effective at removing the leaves in a range of garden situations with little effort required.
