Cooker hoods: Best Buys Best buy

Cooker Hoods

Clear the air in your kitchen with a Best Buy cooker hood

Built-in, chimney, freestanding, integrated or island? Which type of cooker hood is best for you?  Buying the best cooker hood for your kitchen isn’t as straight forward as you might think – but our reviews can help.

Every cooker hood sent to the Which? Test Lab is tested in 14 different ways to find out how effective it is at removing steam, smells and grease, how easy it is to use and how well it’s built. After seven weeks of solid testing we know which cooker hoods are best, and our Best Buy hoods aren’t always the most expensive.

  • You don’t want a noisy kitchen so we measure exactly how loud each cooker hood is when working on full-power. And we also use a panel of experts to listen out for any irritating rattles and vibrations.

  • To identify any ease of use issues we test each hood with someone over six-feet-tall and someone under five-feet. And we use a panel of men and women to tell us how easy or hard it is to attach the hoods to the wall.

  • The worst cooker hoods we’ve tested are four times as noisy as the quietest, they’ll struggle to remove steam, smells and grease, and will leave your kitchen damp, dirty and smelly.

Expert cooker hood reviews you can trust

Models from the biggest cooker hood brands are tested at the Which? Test Lab – including AEG, Bosch, Britannia, Elica and Rangemaster. We see how well cooker hoods can remove smells by using a chemical that smells like nail varnish remover; and for our grease removal tests, we use a horrible mixture of vegetable oil and water  in a hot pan.

Which? is independent - we work for you, the consumer, so you can be sure that our product recommendations are influenced only by our test results. We don't take advertising and we buy all the products that we test ourselves, so our advice helps you to make the right choice first time and avoid costly mistakes.
