Which? reveals the best hotels for New Year’s Eve

Tips on the best places to stay on New Year's Eve

If you’re planning to see in the New Year at a UK hotel or simply need a cheap hotel to rest your head after a New Year’s Eve party, then booking a room at the hotel chains highly rated by Which? members is a good place to start.

Here are our suggestions for reliable hotel chains, whether you want to stay in a country house, value-for-money accommodation, or a hotel that caters well for food and wine seekers. All of the hotel chains, including Premier Inn, Malmaison, Hotel du Vin and Sofitel, have been highly rated by Which? members in the 2012 UK hotel chains survey.

Best chains for festive rural breaks

Escape to the countryside for several nights, perhaps in a large country house with roaring lounge fires and entertainment aplenty, and you’ll soon get into the New Year’s spirit. If you want to spend New Year in a child-free environment, Warner Leisure’s hotels will indulge you with a five-course gala dinner, New Year’s Eve party with live music, and a variety of daytime and New Year’s Day activities.

Good hotels for New Year’s food and drink

A New Year’s dinner at one of Hotel du Vin’s 14 hotels should be a festive treat as the food has been given a big thumbs-up by Which? members. Guests can expect a bespoke New Year package and menu depending on their choice of hotel. Which? members were also impressed by the food at the hotels of its sister brand Malmaison.

If you want a relatively cheap place to stay with food and drink options close at hand, consider booking a room in one of the UK’s 43 Innkeeper’s Lodges which have a pub and restaurant on the doorstep.

Top luxury hotel chains

Are you tempted to have a treat this New Year, perhaps with a few pampering sessions at a top-notch spa thrown in? Two of French brand Sofitel’s three luxurious hotels include spa centres with hammams and massage options.  And with hotels at Gatwick and Heathrow airports, it’s both a first-class and convenient precursor to a New Year holiday abroad.

Some of the most upmarket Marriott hotels also have dedicated spa facilities – you can expect tip-top cleanliness and excellent breakfasts at its hotels, too.

Best value for money chains at New Year

Hotel prices can be notoriously high at this popular time of year, so finding a good-quality hotel without frills is a nifty way to save the pounds. Consider a Hampton by Hilton hotel, which appears in several cities and includes a hot breakfast, high-speed internet access and use of the in-house gym in the room price.

Prolific Premier Inn are found in 641 places – from Cornwall to Edinburgh – and you should find clean rooms and excellent customer service. Two children under 16 can share a room with two adults at no extra cost.
