Dyson has launched its new Dyson Hard DC56 two-in-one floor and vacuum cleaner at Tesco - so we sent Which? floorcare expert Matthew Knight to Dyson HQ to try it out and bring you his first impressions.

The £249 hybrid floor cleaner and vacuum has an attachable wet wipe to help tackle dust and grime on hard floors. It's available now exclusively from Tesco until January 2014, when it will become stocked more widely.

Is the wet wipe a gimmick too far or a valuable helping hand for your household chores? See how it works and how it handles in our Dyson Hard video preview below. You can also read full reviews of the latest Dyson vacuum cleaners in our vacuum cleaner reviews section.

The new Dyson Hard has been specially designed to both clean and vacuum hard floors. Theorectically this removes the need to both mop And then vacuum and Dyson says this will save you time when cleaning. Before you start to clean, you'll need to attach the disposable wet wipe. Attaching the wet wipe is very simple, you simply fold over the two tabs here, and click the floor head into place.

The Dyson Hard has two suction channels. The one at the front to pick up large particles. and the one at the back to pick up the smaller bits of dust. The Dyson Hard has a reinforced tubw so you can put more pressure on for tougher grime. So that's the Dyson Hard. We'll be doing the full first review in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that.

But in the meantime we have hundreds more vacuum cleaner reviews, on which.co.uk.

Dyson Hard - how does it work?

The Dyson Hard looks similar to Dyson’s popular range of handheld and cordless stick vacuums such as the Dyson DC35 and Dyson Digital Slim DC44 Animal, but the key difference is that the floorhead has two vacuum channels on either side of a wet wipe, allowing you to tackle dust and grime in one go. It can also be used as a regular handheld vacuum cleaner, and comes with extra crevice and dusting tools.

The Dyson Hard is powered by Dyson's V2 induction motor, and uses Dyson’s Root cyclone technology, which Dyson claims creates constant, powerful suction.

Steam cleaners taken on by Dyson hard

Which? floorcare expert Matthew Knight says: 'Dyson's latest creation is the manufacturer's answer to the rise in popularity of steam mops.

'Though the Dyson Hard isn't a mop and doesn't use steam to clean floors, the addition of a wet wipe to the design of this vac means it's likely to appeal to the same group of shoppers who are looking for a more high tech way to clean hard floors than a humble mop and bucket.'

Matthew is busy giving the Dyson Hard a full first look trial and will bring you his review soon in our vacuum cleaner reviews section. In the meantime you can check our full range of compact Dyson vacuum cleaner reviews and previews including the new ultra-compact Dyson DC49 vacuum cleaner, plus our verdict on the latest steam mops.
