First Dyson robot vac – the 360 Eye – on its way

Will this new robot vacuum do your dirty work?

Dyson is launching the 360 Eye robot vac in early July

Dyson is launching its first ever robot vacuum cleaner – the Dyson 360 Eye, which it claims will navigate your floors and remove dust and dirt better than any other robot vacuum cleaner.

A company known for its innovations, particularly in the world of vacuums, Dyson has developed a robot vac that it claims knows which parts of the floor it hasn’t cleaned yet. It also says that the 360 Eye has twice the suction power of any other robot vac.

But will the idea of returning home after a busy day to dust-free carpets appeal enough to make it worth the £800 investment?

If you think a robot vac is for you, have a look at our robot vac first look reviews. We’ve also tested 234 regular vacuum cleaners, and found Best Buys for less than £100, so if you’re content with conventional cleaning, then head straight to our vacuum cleaner reviews.

If you buy this vac, which will be available on 5 July, then Dyson promises a personal engineer service – so you’ll get it delivered, set up and be given advice on how to get the most out of the vac. You can also download an app that allows you to control and troubleshoot your vac, as well as view maps of where it has cleaned.

The robot has 360 degree vision, so unlike some robot vacuum cleaners that can only look straight ahead or up at the ceiling, Dyson claims that this vac should have a better idea of where it is in a room than its competitors.

Its brushbar extends the full width of the machine and it has separate brushes depending on the surface it is cleaning: carbon fibre filaments for hard floors and stiff nylon bristles for carpets.

Like some other robot vacs, the Dyson 360 Eye has a docking station where it will automatically go to recharge itself when its battery is low.

Which? robot vac reviews coming soon

The popularity of robot vacs is on the rise, but have they come of age yet? Our experience of them so far is a little disappointing, and we suspect that this new Dyson model won’t vacuum your floors as well as the best upright models out there. Also bear in mind that no robot will vacuum your stairs or get into awkward crevices and onto soft furnishings.

Which? vacuum cleaner expert Matthew Knight said: ‘Dyson has spent more than ten years developing this robot vacuum cleaner and is confident that the 360 Eye is going to be the best robot vacuum cleaner on the market. It certainly looks the part.

‘We have a batch of robot vacuum cleaners in our lab right now – including the 360 Eye – and will bring you the answers to all of your questions, including: is it really the best robot vac? How well does it clean compared to a normal vacuum cleaner and how well will it navigate your home?’
