Dishwasher reviews: Reliability

93%The reliability score for the dishwasher brand with the best reliability record

Every year we survey thousands of Which? members about any problems they've had with their home appliances to find out which brands are the most reliable. Here we reveal our results by showing you the most reliable dishwasher brands that should give you unrivalled service.

This year our reliability ratings are based on the views of more than 4,500 members who responded to our survey. Brands including AEG/AEG Electrolux, Beko, Bosch, Electrolux, Hotpoint, Indesit, John Lewis, Miele, Neff, Siemens, Whirlpool and Zanussi/Zanussi-Electrolux are featured in our reliability rankings.

Three brands score 90% or more for reliability, but one big brand’s reliability score is poor. Bosch dishwashers seem to be a popular purchase, with 45% of dishwasher owners who responded to our survey having gone for this brand.

Our research

Reliability and Best Buys

Reliability is a key part of the decisions we make about which models deserve Which? Best Buy status. A dishwasher can qualify as a Best Buy only if the brand has scored at least three out of five stars for reliability, based on our survey of owners, or if the model has a free five-year warranty.

Common dishwasher problems

When we surveyed Which? members about the problems they'd encountered with their dishwashers, these were reported the most often:

Cleaning 9%

Draining 5%

Reliable dishwasher

Look for dishwasher brands with three, four or five stars for reliability

Dishwashers from the biggest brands, and cheaper own-brands, are tested at the Which? Test lab. We test full-sized, slimline, fully-integrated and semi-integrated models as well as the smaller compact variety. We test for dishwashing, energy use, water use and ease of use. So when a dishwasher does brilliantly in all of our tests, you'll know it will be great when you get it home.

Which? is independent - we work for you, the consumer, so you can be sure that our product recommendations are influenced only by our test results. We don't take advertising and we buy all the products that we test ourselves, so our advice helps you to make the right choice first time and avoid costly mistakes.
