Calling all chip lovers: top kit for perfect chipsThere's still time to celebrate National Chip Week
26 February 2012
Forget pancakes (unless they're potato ones of course) - today marks the end of National Chip Week, which celebrates the humble spud and chips.
Nearly 60% of chips prepared at home are oven chips, a third are fried and just 3% come from the microwave, says Love Potatoes, the organiser of National Chip Week.
For the perfect fried chip at home, our fryer reviews reveal which four fryers have earned our coveted Best Buy stamp of approval.
But chips don't have to be deep fried in lots of oil any more, as Which? fryers expert Matt Clear explains: 'Recent innovations such as the Tefal Actifry and Philips Airfryer are able to fry food using tiny amounts of oil.
'Whether they actually taste any good is another matter - find out our expert verdict in our full in-depth reviews of the Tefal Actifry and Philips Airfryer.
'Deep fat fryers are safer than chip pans, and we've discovered Best Buys from as little as £70 which make it easy to produce great-tasting chips in less than 15 minutes.'
Salt or vinegar?
Recent research by Leeds University revealed that vinegar is best on chip shop chips, rather than french fries, because of the size of the chip.
