Where is hot in November for a last-minute holiday?

Make the most of easing travel restrictions with six sunshine-drenched destinations including the Canary Islands, Cyprus and the USA

If you're craving a last-minute sunshine break, November could be the sweet spot for hassle-free travel. UK testing restrictions have eased, many FCDO warnings have been dropped and the red list has shrunk to just a handful of countries, finally opening the world up to travellers tempted by a far-flung escape.

Whether you're seeking the cosmopolitan buzz of Dubai or the laidback serenity of Mauritius we've found balmy long-haul getaways for a pre-Christmas glow. Or, if you'd rather bask in the late autumn sunshine closer to home, opt for a short-haul suntrap at the edge of Europe such as Cyprus.

To help narrow down your search, we've selected six destinations that are hot in November.

There are still considerations to be aware of before you book a trip. Always check FCDO warnings for the destination you have in mind, as travelling against government advice could invalidate your insurance. You'll also need to find out if they are welcoming British holidaymakers and if an onslaught of costly tests and quarantine await your arrival.

We recommend choosing a package to protect yourself against changing travel restrictions with a holiday provider with a good flexible booking policy.

Is Gran Canaria hot in November?

Average maximum temperature: 23 degrees

A safe bet for year-round sunshine, Gran Canaria offers mild November temperatures and rugged, varied scenery to explore.

Make the most of the warmth by kicking back on its black lava and white sand beaches, or by visiting its natural swimming pools, botanic gardens and golden desert at the Dunes of Maspalomas.

Temperatures in southern resorts such as Playa del Ingles and Meloneras hover around 23 degrees in November while Las Palmas in the north is a touch cooler averaging around 21 degrees.

You'll need to complete a Spanish Health Form and proof of vaccination or a negative PCR Covid test to enter the Canary Islands.

Average maximum temperature: 22 degrees

Although November is one of the cooler months in Cyprus, you can still enjoy wall to wall sunshine during the day as a welcome tonic to the UK's drizzle. Seaside resort towns Larnaca and Protaras tip the mercury at 22 degrees while historic Paphos and lively Limassol are a breezier 21 degrees on average.

Off-season Cyprus offers a chance to discover crowd-free beaches, dine in traditional mountain villages, pound the cobbled streets of divided Nicosia or savour archaeological wonders such as the House of Dionysos in Paphos. Just don't forget your jacket for evenings.

Double-jabbed travellers will need to show their NHS Covid Pass and the Cyprus Flight Pass to gain entry.

Long-haul hot spots

Is Dubai hot in November?

Average maximum temperature: 31 degrees

Hot without the unbearable sizzle of summer, between November and March is the best time to visit Dubai. During November you can bask in nine hours of sunshine a day, 28-degree sea temperatures and zero chance of rain ruining your plans.

Designed for holidaymakers to do as much or as little as they please in luxury, Dubai offers thrilling adventures such as desert dune bashing, camel racing or splashing in Aquaventure waterpark. For a slower pace, try Etihad Museum, Kite Beach or world class shopping and dining at The Dubai Mall.

Do factor testing costs into your trip, as you'll need to take an in-clinic PCR test before visiting the UAE even if fully vaccinated.

Is Florida hot in November?

Average maximum temperature: 27 degrees

The USA is finally set to welcome vaccinated Brits back to its shores from 8 November. And while cinematic New York and dreamy Vermont dazzle in a blaze of autumn leaves this month, Florida paints an entirely different picture.

There are highs of 27 degrees in the sunshine state - and where better to soak it up than on one of Miami's 16 beaches.

You'll avoid the sultry summer heat in family favourite Orlando too, which averages 25 degrees in November. Theme parks such as Disney World are in lively festive mode in the run-up to Thanksgiving, but do bring a jacket for cooler evenings.

Keep an eye on USA entry requirements to make sure you're fully prepared to travel.

You'll need to take a PCR test to visit, even if double jabbed. Unvaccinated travellers face a 14-day quarantine and testing.

West coast Flic en Flac and Le Morne - which are nearer to the jaw-dropping Black River Gorges National Park - are cooler, but still mild at 27 and 26 degrees respectively.

You'll likely land in frenetic Bangkok to highs of 32 degrees, while the blissful beaches of Krabi and palm-fringed Koh Samui hit 30 and 29 degrees respectively in November. If you journey north to Chiang Mai's ancient temples or take a wildlife trek, temperatures still hover in the high 20s.
