W? comments on the government's new strategy for EV infrastructure
2 min read
Sue Davies, Head of Consumer Protection Policy at Which?, said:
"Our research has shown that anxiety around charging is one of the top barriers preventing consumers from switching to an EV, and it is clear that the public charging infrastructure is in need of an urgent overhaul.
"It is promising that the new strategy for EV infrastructure has set some key areas for improvement including accelerating the roll out of chargers and measures to improve the experience of using charge points.
"It is crucial that the UK government shows real leadership on this issue. There has to be a joined up approach between governments, industry and local authorities to deliver a user-friendly charging network that meets the needs of all drivers across the UK, no matter where they live and travel."

Notes to editors:
- A recent nationally representative Which? survey showed that three of the five most significant barriers to consumers buying an EV related to anxiety about charging. A third (33%) of those surveyed pointed to the lack of availability of charge points on long journeys and three in 10 (29%) raised concerns about a lack of charge points close to their home. - Which? research found that just 13% of EV charging is happening on the public network, with over 90% of current electric car owners currently able to charge at home - but this is set to change. With around 8 million households unable to charge at home, urgent improvements to the charging infrastructure are needed to get fit for the future. The news release can be readhere.
