Which? comments as CMA set to investigate green claims in sales of household essentials
Sue Davies, Which? Head of Consumer Rights Policy, said:
“During the cost of living crisis consumers are having to make tough choices when buying the essential products they use every day, so it’s more important than ever that people wanting to prioritise sustainability aren’t spending extra money on items that fail to live up to their “green” credentials.
“It is positive that the CMA is looking into potentially misleading environmental claims companies have made. Businesses must ensure they are complying with the law and put a stop to greenwashing so that people can trust the information they see and make informed choices about the products they buy. Otherwise, the regulator must be prepared to take enforcement action to tackle this problem.
“The government also needs to make sure the law is strengthened to prevent companies from making misleading green claims, as part of its forthcoming reforms to consumer law.”
