Which? comments on the news Black Friday spending in UK expected to fall by almost a quarter

Natalie Hitchins, Which? Head of Home Products and Services, said:

“Black Friday sales can seem attractive, but the deals often aren’t as good as they seem. Prices fluctuate throughout the year and discounts certainly aren’t limited to Black Friday, so don’t feel panicked into buying things you don’t need or hadn’t budgeted for.

“When looking to buy something new, always do your research first by checking price comparison sites like PriceRunner, which not only shows current prices at multiple retailers but also reveals a product’s pricing history. This allows you to work out whether the sale price genuinely represents good value.

"Haggling is also worth a try when looking for a good deal. Which? has found using the live chat function and requesting an extra discount when shopping online to be an effective way of saving more cash.

“Although there are plenty of dud deals out there, Which? has found that some products really are worth buying around Black Friday. If you're in the market for a fridge freezer, tablet or smart TV box you might just score a bargain, as none of the ones in our most recent investigation were available for less than their Black Friday prices at other times of the year.”
