Press statement
Which? comments on the news that the Advertising Standards Agency has banned social media ads promising prostate cancer diagnosis and ADHD and autism treatment
1 min read
Sue Davies, Which? Head of Food Policy, said:
"These adverts are particularly damaging as they risk giving false hope, tricking people into wasting their money, or even seriously harming their health.
"It's good to see that the Advertising Standards Agency is taking down ads for food supplements and tests with these misleading claims, but it's concerning that consumers may have already been bombarded with them for months.
"The regulator and social media firms must do more to stop these ads appearing in the first place and reaching consumers. Any companies that break the rules must be properly held to account so that they do not continue to mislead online shoppers."
