Which? comments on Trading Standards' warning about loan sharks and doorstep energy sellers

Director of Policy and Advocacy, said: "It's concerning that the cost of living crisis is leaving people in a vulnerable position and there could be an increase in doorstep scammers and rogue traders knocking at their door. "To help ensure that people do not fall foul of rogue businesses and unfair practices in this difficult time, more robust consumer protections are needed. "Last year the government put forward its proposals for better protecting consumers. It now needs to put these plans into action with a new Consumer and Competition Bill in the next Queen's Speech."

Adopting a blanket policy not to buy services offered at the door is the best way to stop any would-be fraudsters in their tracks.
Don't be afraid of sounding rude when telling anyone who calls that you don't buy services offered at the door.
If you encounter a fraudster, you should report them to Action Fraud in England or call Policing Scotland on 101 in Scotland and if you have any safety fears, dial 999 immediately.
