Which? responds as Heathrow indicates passenger caps may be reintroduced this winter

2 min read
Guy Hobbs, Editor of Which? Travel, said: "News that Heathrow may implement yet another passenger cap will be hugely concerning for those planning to travel through the hub this winter, with thousands now anxious as to whether their Christmas plans could be left in ruins. "Heathrow must act without delay to provide clarity on whether a cap will be introduced, and airlines must ensure any affected passengers are given sufficient notice of any changes to their booking. Airlines must also make sure passengers are aware of their rights to rebooking or refunds. Anyone still looking to book a getaway this winter may want to consider alternative airports. "Passenger caps cannot be allowed to continue indefinitely, and the aviation industry and government must work together to get a handle on the chaos that continues to plague travellers this year."

Notes to editors: - Guy Hobbs is acting editor of Which? Travel while Rory Boland is on leave. - - Which? is calling for:
  • Enforcement - The CAA should be doing more by holding airlines to account proactively. It also needs direct powers to monitor and fine airlines when they flout the rules.
  • Resolution - We need a dispute resolution system that is mandatory for all airlines flying to and from the UK so travellers don't have to go to the small claims court to enforce their rights.
  • Compensation - We need to protect passengers' rights to redress when airlines are at fault for delays and cancellations. Proposals to slash payouts for domestic flights must be dropped.
