Which? responds to American Express outage leaving consumers unable to make payments
1 min read
Adam French, Which? Consumer Rights Editor, said: "This American Express outage will cause huge inconvenience to people who have been left unable to make any payments. Customers may also be left out of pocket if, for example, a fine is incurred due to a missed payment. "Although American Express has advised customers to use the option of making payments via bank transfer while the issue is fixed, this carries a lower level of consumer protection if there is a disputed payment or the cardholder is a victim of fraud. "We strongly advise customers to keep evidence of extra expenses they may have incurred as a result of the outage, so they can be claimed back from American Express."
