Which? responds to drivers being hit with 17m parking tickets in a year
Sue Davies, Which? Head of Consumer Protection Policy, said:
“We consistently hear from motorists left frustrated and bewildered while battling unfair fines and charges from private parking companies. While consumers struggle, these firms are issuing millions of tickets every year and that number continues to rise.
“The government must act now to scrap the current ineffective industry code of practice and replace it with a stronger, robust government-backed private parking code as required in legislation. Ministers should ensure this caps parking charges at a fair level, limits the ability of firms to impose debt recovery fees on consumers, improves clarity and prominence of signage and introduces a single, independent appeals body.”
Notes to editors:
Which? set out its proposals for private parking sector reform - including a £50 cap on parking charges - in a consultation response last year.
