Which? responds to Martin Lewis' Energy Meeting

Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said: "This roundtable highlights the important role businesses have to play in tackling the cost of living crisis, and it is encouraging to see energy suppliers working with charities and consumer groups. The steps being taken to improve energy bill transparency and ensure help reaches those who are struggling could make a real difference.

"We agree that Ofgem should explore reforming the standing charge while ensuring protections are in place for vulnerable consumers with high usage (such as some disabled people). The regulator, government and suppliers should also explore ways of using data to proactively offer support to customers who are struggling, before they face the need to turn to debt charities.

"Suppliers of essential services like energy and telecoms should also consider whether their exit fees are justified. "Which? is looking forward to working with businesses across the energy, telecoms and supermarket sectors to find more ways to support consumers through the tough times ahead.
