Which? responds to ONS survey on cost-of-living crisis

Rocio Concha, Director of Policy and Advocacy at Which?, said:

"These worrying findings reflect our research into the deepening impact the cost-of-living crisis is having for millions of households across the UK.

"Which? has found as many as six in 10 households have had to make an adjustment to cover their essential spending in the last month, such as cutting back on essentials, borrowing from family and friends, taking out loans or credit cards, dipping into savings or overdrafts or selling items. 11 per cent had skipped meals and three percent had used a food bank.

"While recently announced support with energy costs will bring some relief for many people, the government must continue to ensure action is taken to support the most financially vulnerable in society, and enforce consumer protections, giving regulators the powers needed to hold firms operating in key consumer sectors to account.

"Energy firms must also do their bit - by clearly providing available support to customers struggling to meet rising energy costs and transparent information to consumers about any increases and how they will be affected."
