Which? responds to report finding cost of living is leading to more holidays in Britain

1 min read

Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, said:

"With the threat of strikes looming large over holidaymakers' foreign travel plans this Easter, holidaying at home may seem like a cheaper alternative but Which? research has previously found that UK trips are usually more expensive than like for like trips to popular European destinations – and that UK hotel prices have risen by almost a fifth since last Easter.

"For holidaymakers looking to make their budget stretch further on a UK break, there are plenty of ways to make savings. If you're prepared to be flexible, you could save hundreds of pounds depending on your choice of location - for example, our recent research found that swapping a holiday cottage in the Lake District for one in the Peak District could save hundreds of pounds for a week's stay. If opting for a hotel stay, shop around and ring the hotel directly to see if it can beat the cheapest price you've found online - even if they can't go any lower, you might find they're willing to throw in a freebie as a goodwill gesture."
