Which? responds to scammers targeting consumers with the unsolicited selling of repair and maintenance plans for household appliances

Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said:
“For years criminals have exploited vulnerable individuals by selling fake repair and maintenance plans for household appliances. These fraudulent activities not only deceive consumers but also result in substantial financial losses through unauthorised direct debits.
“It's really concerning to see these con artists targeting the same victims again by exploiting new trends and pushing bogus green energy, medical alert, and insulation services as well as discount, loyalty and member benefit cards.
"The enforcement of consumer protection laws is crucial. Trading Standards must be strengthened to ensure it has the resources and powers necessary to enforce the law."
