Which? responds to the FSA and FSS' joint report on the UK food system

1 min read
Sue Davies, Which? Head of Consumer Rights and Food Policy, said: "The Food Standard Agency and Food Standard Scotland's joint report sets out starkly the challenges which have affected the UK's ability to maintain food standards over the past few years - including Brexit, new trade deals, the Covid pandemic and the cost of living crisis. "Although both agencies conclude that food safety standards have largely been maintained, they also stress that this is a cautious conclusion and highlight the drop in local authority inspections to ensure compliance with food standards and the lack of import controls for goods coming from the EU as particular risks. "It is essential that the government heeds these warnings and ensures that consumers can have confidence that there are effective safeguards in place to maintain safety and broader food standards for both UK-produced and imported products."
