Which? responds to the ICO's call for organisations to share personal information responsibly to protect their customers from fraud

Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said:

"Which? has previously called for new ICO guidance on data sharing so we are pleased to see them providing greater clarity on this and encouraging businesses to do more to tackle the fraud epidemic.

"Currently, the government and businesses such as online platforms, banks and telecoms firms operate in silos and do not share the data they have on how these fraudsters operate - making it much harder to stop scams reaching victims in the first place.

"To tackle fraud, the government should lead a taskforce encouraging key businesses - such as telecoms providers, banks and online advertisers - to share data and stop scams spreading. Without greater action, the fraud epidemic will continue to grow and millions more hard-working people will lose money to scammers."
