Which? responds to the news that almost four million smart meters aren't operating in smart mode
Emily Seymour, Which? Energy Editor, said:
"Almost four million smart meters are not working in smart mode - which will understandably leave some consumers worried that they're not being billed the right amount for their energy usage.
"You'll know your smart meter is sending readings to your supplier if the meter readings in your account are marked as smart. You can check this on your online account, app or paper statements. If they aren't, and are marked as estimates, then there may be an issue with your meter.
"Consumers should contact their supplier if their smart meter isn't sending readings automatically and submit manual readings in the meantime to make sure their bills are accurate. Energy suppliers must make sure that they address any smart meter issues quickly - so their customers can be sure their meter readings are accurate and aren't hit with any unexpected bills."
