Which? responds to the news that poorer households witnessed sharper cost-of-living food price rises
1 min read
Sue Davies, Which? Head of Food Policy, said:
"These findings are in line with our research that poorer households have and continue to be worst affected by food price inflation. Even recently, when overall food inflation had fallen sharply, our analysis of supermarket prices found that the prices of budget-range food and drink were 9.3 per cent higher in May 2024 compared to the previous year.
"With many households still struggling to make ends meet, supermarkets continue to have an important role to play. They must support their customers - including those who rely on pricier convenience stores - to make healthy and affordable choices."
