Which? responds to the news that some energy customers are experiencing difficulties submitting meter readings

Adam French, Which? Consumer Rights Editor, said:

"The severity of the cost of living crisis will really hit home for millions of people this Friday as they face hikes to their energy, broadband, mobile, water and council tax bills.

"Anyone on a variable tariff should remember to take their energy readings today so they can make sure they're charged the correct amount for any energy used before the price cap hike takes effect.

"Worryingly, we have heard reports of people struggling to submit meter readings because their energy firm's website is down - in this case, people should take a photo of their meter readings so they can prove when the readings were taken. Some energy companies also have automated phone lines you can use to submit meter readings, people can also try calling these numbers or emailing if they can't submit readings online.

"Energy companies should have been prepared for higher numbers of customers getting in touch and should support any customers trying to submit their meter readers today."
