Which? responds to the news that the government is consulting on a code of practice for private parking firms
1 min read
Rob Lilley-Jones, Which? Consumer Expert, said:
“Drivers currently face a lottery of rules when using private car parks - with how and when they pay varying dramatically from car park to car park.
“If drivers are hit with an unfair penalty charge, there is no singular appeals process and claims can be rejected despite issues such as broken ticket machines or unclear signage.
“A government-backed private parking code, which is legally enforceable by consumers, could make a real difference to regulating the industry and making the rules in private car parks clearer."
