Which? response as Ofcom consults on its first Codes of Practice for tech firms under Online Safety Act

1 min read

Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said:

"The Online Safety Act becoming law is a vital moment in the fight back against fraud. It should force tech giants to take more responsibility for tackling fraudulent adverts on their platforms and it is positive Ofcom is progressing with the regulatory codes so quickly to make this happen.

"Which? will continue to work with Ofcom to help ensure new regulations include robust measures that catch a large number of scams before they hit the platforms and reach users.

"Social media firms and search engines need to be held to a high standard and Ofcom cannot shy away from taking strong enforcement action, including fines, against firms if they break the law."
